Conam TermsLast updated: 5 Sep 2025
1) What Conam is
Conam is a free, anonymous, lightweight messaging platform. By design:
- Messages are stored in RAM and retained for a maximum of 24 hours.
- If a chat is inactive for 12 hours, it is deleted.
- Groups may enable limited persistence up to 10 MB per group.
- Voice & video calls are peer-to-peer (WebRTC) via a public PeerServer (no call logs kept by us).
By using the service, you agree to these terms.
2) Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required by your country) to use the service.
3) Acceptable Use
- No illegal content or activity.
- No harassment, threats, doxxing, sexual exploitation, or hate content.
- No malware, phishing, spam, or automated abuse.
- No attempts to bypass rate limits or service protections.
We may restrict or block access when we detect abuse.
4) Anonymity & Moderation
Conam is anonymous and does not require accounts. For abuse prevention:
- We may process IP addresses and related metadata internally to apply warnings and bans.
- We do not expose IP addresses to other users.
- We may store hashed or derived identifiers for moderation (not public).
You can submit reports. We may take action at our discretion.
5) Data Retention
- Direct chats: ephemeral in RAM; deleted after 24h max or 30m inactivity, whichever is earlier.
- Groups: limited persistent storage up to 10 MB per group; older items may be removed when limits are reached.
- Calls: P2P; we do not record or store call audio/video.
- Logs: we aim to keep minimal technical logs; moderation data (e.g., IP-based ban records) may be retained for as long as needed to prevent abuse.
6) Privacy Summary
We collect the minimum necessary to run and protect the service:
- Technical data (e.g., IP address, user-agent) for networking, rate-limiting, and abuse prevention.
- Ephemeral content you send (RAM only for most chats; groups may persist within the 10 MB cap).
We do not sell personal data. See our full Privacy Notice at https://idiotstudios.co.za/conam/privacy
7) Availability & Changes
The service is provided “as is.” Features may change or be discontinued at any time. We may update these terms; continued use means you accept the changes.
8) Disclaimers
We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free service. Peer-to-peer calls may fail due to network conditions, NAT traversal, or third-party PeerServer issues.
9) Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Conam and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the service.
10) Termination
We may suspend or terminate access at our discretion for any violation of these terms or to protect the service.
11) Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Courts located in South Africa will have exclusive jurisdiction, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
